Interesting for advertisers
It is a very simple system, because when you connect both accounts on Twitter, you can send items to your Amazon shopping cart without having to leave Twitter. The consumer only has to reply #AmazonCart to tweets that contain an Amazon link and that particular item will be added to the shopping cart. That won’t finalize the purchase as you will still need to visit Amazon to actually pay for the item(s).
“We are certainly open to working with other social networks. Twitter in particular offers a great environment for our customers to discover product recommendations from artists, experts, brands and friends“, an Amazon spokesperson told CNet. Amazon has stated that Twitter won’t get a part of the turnover generated through this hashtag strategy.
Retailers may find the #AmazonBasket system very interesting and it might lead to advertisers using the Amazon-linked tweets more often. Consumers may however be reticent as their tweets would be exposed to the rest of the world and they may not feel comfortable sharing their purchases online.
