The French supermarket group Casino will not only take a minority stake in the express delivery company Gorillas, but both companies will also significantly expand their existing cooperation.
Private labels
In addition to a stake in Gorillas France, Casino will also acquire an interest in the holding company that owns the express delivery company. The supermarket chain will become a minority shareholder in both instances. However, nothing is known regarding the size of the investment.
After the express courier arrived in France in April, Casino was already responsible for supplying Gorillas’ dark stores. This cooperation is being expanded: soon, a few hundred private label products of Monoprix will be added to Gorillas’ assortment, writes LSA. About 70 per cent of the total offer of the flash courier will come from the Casino group. The remainder consists of local products that Gorillas will buy directly from retailers and artisans.
Monoprix and Franprix will offer home delivery within 10 minutes in the cities where Gorillas is active. To achieve this, the express delivery company is putting its technology at the disposal of the two retailers and will be responsible for the rapid delivery of the orders. Currently, Gorillas is already active in Paris, Ile-de-France, Bordeaux, Lyon and Montpellier, but the aim is to expand the delivery area to other French cities quickly.
More alliances
In terms of food e-commerce, this is the third partnership for Casino. The group already uses Ocado technology for the delivery of 30,000 items. It is also available on Amazon Prime, offering 7,000 products.
At the end of last month, Gorillas joined forces with Tesco in the UK. There, both partners share warehouses located in the stores of the British retailer. From there, speedy deliveries can take place.
