Von Furstenberg as ‘early adopter’
Von Furstenberg has created a collection with 5 colours, priced 120 to 225 dollars (88 to 165 euro), with two types of sunglasses also for sale. If you want every advantage of a Google Glass, you will have to pay more, namely 1,700 dollars (1,247 euro).
Net-a-porter has become the first retailer allowed to sell Google Glass, as Google is currently the only one selling the device and it is no coincidence that Von Furstenberg was chosen first. The designer had used Google Glass in one of her shows in 2013 and was one of the first to use Google Hangout for e-commerce as well. She had used it for a presentation which allowed viewers to order the articles online right there and then.
While Google has worked to make Google Glass even more functional, it has also moved into a more fashionable direction. It has worked with Ray-Ban and Oakly, while also attracting Ivy Ross (who had previously worked for Calvin Klein and GAP).
