“Actual innovation”
At the Global E-commerce Summit in Barcelona, Bol.com had to compete with British Worldstores.co.uk and French L’Exception for the top honour, the Entrepreneurial Award. It did brilliantly, as the Ahold subsidiary actually managed to take top spot.
Bol.com’s managing director, Daniel Ropers, had to do a presentation in front of an international jury as the last phase before the prize was handed out. The jury praised the company as it allows competitors and other sellers on its platform. “A sign of actual innovation and entrepreneurial spirit”, Twinkle wrote. Ropers was surprised with the win, but added it was only the start for the company.
Tesco wins omnichannel
Tesco and Asos were other prize winners at the European E-Commerce Awards: Tesco won the omnichannel award as the British chain excels in customer service in each channel, according to the jury. Marks & Spencer came in second, while Scandinavian furniture chain Bolia came in third. Dutch G-Star also received a nomination, but did not win anything.
Asos won the Pure Player Award, meant for companies that only sell online, with Amazon and Net-a-Porter coming in second and third. Zalando and Yoox went home empty-handed.
