420,000 sites
An American safety company, Hold Security, has discovered that the gang has stolen information from more than 420,0000 sites, both small and large. Hold Security has refused to divulge names, to avoid giving other hackers any ideas.
“Hackers did not just target U.S. companies, they targeted any website they could get, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to very small websites,” Alex Holden, the founder and chief information security officer of Hold Security, told the New York Times.
It is another blow for companies which are trying to safeguard their customers’ information. It became apparent in December that East European hackers had stolen 40 million credit card numbers and information from 70 million Target customers. Those numbers seem marginal now, compared to the loot of this Russian gang.
