Biometrics in Alipay Wallet app
It seems like science fiction, but reality has caught up with fiction: “The biometric technology will allow mobile users to confirm payments for a wide variety of goods and services with their smartphones simply by swiping a digit instead of entering a lengthy code”, Alibaba’s blog said.
Huawei developed the technology and incorporated it into the Mate 7, its newest smartphone which launched this week. Alipay Wallet, China’s most popular mobile payment service, already has more than 100 million users and will be the first to take advantage of this innovation.
Huawei is not the first to use fingerprint technology as Samsung (Galaxy 5) and Apple (iPhone 5) have also implemented the technology. Hackers quickly found holes in those versions, which meant that they were unsuccessful. It remains to be seen how this version will fare…
