Mountain Dew competitor
Surge was originally launched as a Coca-Cola-backed competitor for Pepsi’s popular Mountain Dew. The company decided to pull the Surge plug 12 years ago, but it will temporarily relaunch it on Amazon.com. The reason for its return? A Facebook fan page of 128,000 people lobbied for a long time to get the drink back.
It is the first time that Coca-Cola has launched a product that is only available online. “This will be a great learning experience for us and a refreshing opportunity for fans”, Wendy Clark said. She is Coca-Cola’s president of North America Sparkling & Strategic Marketing.
