No fee
The pilot program is the next step in the social network’s plan to turn its users into consumers on the website itself. Facebook will not get a fee for any transactions at the moment, but that is an addition it might consider in the future, once its service gets used more often.
“With the shop section on the page, we are now providing businesses with the ability to showcase their products directly on the page,” Facebook product marketing manager Emma Rodgers told BuzzFeed News.
About a year ago, Facebook launched the buy button in its ads, giving users the opportunity to instantly buy items that were on show in the ad. Google also presented its own buy button last week, displaying the exact same capabilities, while Twitter has also experimented with a buy button in its tweets.
