Package vault in the bus
According to the patent, customers would be able to inform Amazon which bus they take for their daily commute to work. The company will then place their package in a package vault, which is installed into the bus or train. A text message will inform the customer when the package is available for pickup.
Amazon not only wants to use buses and trains, as it also considers using package vaults at bus stops or train stations. The company feels it is mainly an excellent service for people in rural areas, where home delivery is an entirely unprofitable venture.
Amazon has already started using public transport for its package deliveries in another way: couriers use the New York subway to get packages delivered faster in the busy inner-city. For the time being, only Amazon Prime packages get delivered this way.
