Growth spurt in the Netherlands
LensOnline, founded in 2004, has more than 120,000 customers in Belgium, which gives it a 10 % market share. It has always worked with local opticians, which has proven to be a benefit for either party.
It is exactly this type of collaboration it seeks to present abroad as well. It is already active in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France, while talks are underway for additional countries. City Lens on the other hands has the largest contact lens business in the Netherlands and was eager to work with LensOnline in order to get a strong online partner.
The Netherlands is an interesting market for LensOnline. Currently, out of 11 million Belgian citizens, 8 % wears contact lenses, while the Netherlands has 17 million citizens and 12 % wears contact lenses. The company hopes to attract 100 independent Dutch opticians in the upcoming 4 years.
