Auchan managed to raise its 2024 turnover thanks to acquisitions, but comparable turnover on the French home market fell and the net loss increased sharply. A commercial recovery plan was brought in to provide relief.
China slashes non-food sales
Auchan Retail’s turnover rose by 2.1 % to 31.6 billion euros last year, but this growth can be attributed to the acquisition of 94 Casino supermarkets and hypermarkets in France and 481 Dia stores in Portugal. On the other hand, the group’s comparable turnover fell by 2.8 % – and even by 4.7 % in France. Non-food sales in particular are suffering from increasing competition from Chinese webshops. Auchan’s parent company Elo (which also includes the real estate activities) saw its net loss rise to 1.22 billion euros, partly as a result of exceptional charges.
