Direct competitor for “Amazon Pantry”
The market for home grocery delivery services is becoming crowded in Germany, as this Lidl Vorratsbox comes only a week after Amazon‘s own announcement (for Germany and Austria), called the Amazon Pantry. Just like with Amazon, Lidl customers can hand in a shopping list on the website and two to three days later, a courier will deliver the items in a “supply box” to the customer’s doorstep. Customers can also choose to pick up the box in a DHL pick-up point.
Unlike Amazon’s 4.99 euro service fee, Lidl’s service is entirely free of charge until the end of November. Starting then, customers will have to pay as well, but it is not clear how much that will be. The company currently has no plans to expand the service into other countries anytime soon.
