The European Union’s Online Dispute Resolution platform is the central online platform to settle international online sales disputes.
Avoid legal action
The European Union wants the platform to help resolve European online purchase issues cheaply, uniformly and quickly. No judge will be involved in the matters as Europe believes this will facilitate cross-border eCommerce as the barrier to resolve complaints has now been lowered.
Both consumers and companies can use the platform to talk about a problem, doing so in their own language. According to Twinkle, a national board will take care of the complaint within 90 days.
A complaint filed on the Online Dispute Resolution platform does not mean it cannot lead to court cases, whenever two parties do not come to an agreement for example. However, web shops are now required to refer to the platform on their website.
