Meal delivery service Takeaway.com achieved a 53 % growth in the first half of 2017, compared to 2016. The number of orders also grew 43 %, but the company is still onerous.
32 million orders
The company’s turnover reached 77.4 million euro in the first six months of 2017, thanks to 32 million orders and improved market share in the five largest markets (Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Austria). Just Eat’s acquisition helped its Belgian market share grow a lot.
Takeaway.com still continues to invest a lot in marketing with another 62 % increase to 59 million euro in 2016. In the end, the company suffered a 21.8 million euro loss, almost twice the loss from the year before. Costs will continue to grow, but it also expects losses to diminish. Dutch profit did grow 26 % to 20.5 million euro, but the other markets were onerous.
Growing profit in the Netherlands
The number of orders in the Netherlands grew 31 % to 12.9 million, which means it is the company’s largest market. Germany also posted a 44 % growth to 11.3 million orders, taking second place. Its number of active customers grew 35 % to 10.2 million and these customers spent an average 19.17 euro, which is similar to last year.
German turnover grew 63 %, particularly thanks to a higher fee, to 27 million euro. Dutch turnover grew 35 % to 34.8 million euro.
