Link to own website
Amazon would link to the online stores of the different fashion chains, which means it won’t sell products from these partners itself anymore.
Amazon’s benefit would be the fact that it could gather information about the sales, according to financial press agency Reuters, which has heard it from several sources involved in the deal. Apparently, more than 10 chains are currently in talks with Amazon.
A link to their own web shops might bring in additional sales for the fashion houses, but they are not too eager to collaborate as it may be considered a pact with the devil. Amazon already has information on 240 million customers and has previously shown it is willing to lose money on new initiatives as long as these enlarge the e-tailer’s power.
Additional offer for Prime customers
If terms can be agreed, the collaboration would launch in the summer with Amazon even offering free delivery to its Prime customers, who already pay 79 dollars (57 euro) per year.
The deal would also help complete Amazon’s offer. It might also help if it was willing to increase the annual contribution Prime customers have to pay, which means Amazon would have to attract more high-segment customers and also offer its current customers more “bang for their buck”. Currently, Amazon already has more than 20 million Prime customers.
