Meal delivery service Deliveroo is quitting the German market as of this Friday. The company says it wants to focus on better-performing markets.
Redirect focus
The British company says it wants to focus on countries where it either has already achieved a major market share or where it sees room for significant turnover increases. Deliveroo says it will give a decent compensation to its German couriers and employees and to the 2,500 restaurant with which it still works in Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg and Munich.
The news comes just two weeks after rivals Takeaway.com and Just Eat announced their plans to merge. The former is the market leader in the German meal delivery market, especially after taking over the German activities of Delivery Hero (Lieferheld, Pizza.de and Foodora) last year.
Deliveroo’s most important markets are France and the United Kingdom, but it is also active in twelve (after Friday, eleven) other countries.
