Kentucky Fried Chicken has started a collaboration with Beyond Meat in order to create plant-based ‘chicken nuggets’ and ‘chicken wings’. Almost all major fast-food chains have now developed a taste for meat substitutions.
Wings without chicken
Customers in a KFC in Atlanta will receive a special taster of a fried ‘chicken’ on 27 August, which the fast-food chain has created with Beyond Meat. They can try the plant-based novelty both in ‘nugget’ or ‘wings’ form. Afterwards, KFC will evaluate the test based on consumers’ feedback. If that is largely positive, the chain will start a larger-scale test and possibly even a nationwide introduction, the company told Bloomberg. Investors are quite happy with the news and have sent KFC’s share price soaring.
Plant-based ‘meat’ is a real trend: major producers like Nestlé and Unilever have already started creating a series of ‘meat’ products without animal suffering, and chains like Burger King have started a collaboration with Beyond Meat’s rivals Impossible Burger.
