Aldi will now also deliver beer and wine to American customers’ homes. The discounter is expanding its partnership with grocery delivery company Instacart.
Same-day delivery
American Aldi customers can now also order wine and beer online via the discounter’s webshop or via the Instacart App, and have it delivered to their homes on the same day. The offer is, of course, subject to local legislation: in some states the home delivery of alcohol is banned. Customers must be at least 21 years old and must also show valid proof of identity at the time of delivery.
Wine, in particular, has become an increasingly popular product in Aldi stores, Supermarket News reports. Several Aldi wines have recently won awards, and these have been put in the spotlight on the retail chain’s website.
End-of-year celebrations
“The busy holiday season is coming, and that makes convenience more important than ever. Adding alcohol to our online offerings is one more way ALDI saves you time,” says Scott Patton, Vice President of corporate buying. “Our award-winning wines range from less than 5 dollars (4.5 euros) for 90-point rated Evanta Malbec, to 12 dollars (11 euros) for premium offerings, such as 92-point rated Peaks & Tides Cabernet Sauvignon. You can have a bottle delivered to your doorstep in as fast as an hour.”
Aldi started its cooperation with Instacart in the second half of 2017 in three cities. Last year, the online delivery service expanded to 35 American states. At this moment, nearly all Aldi stores offer this service. Customers can also pick their groceries up in the shop.
