Unilever is not planning to sell Lipton or its other tea brands, the British-Dutch company said – contradicting earlier reports.
Changing tastes
Yesterday, British newspaper The Sunday Telegraph wrote that Unilever was considering selling its tea brands as a result of changing consumer preferences and tastes, and disappointing sales this summer. The article went as far as to suggest PepsiCo as a potential candidate to buy the tea brands.
Finanzen.nl now says that there is no impending sale whatsoever: a Unilever spokesperson said that Lipton and PG Tips are very popular brands and pointed out that the growth of black tea in several markets is slowing down, but that the company is working on this. The group also wants to expand its range to include herbal tea and other segments.
