Walmart subsidiary Asda will roll out a pickup service in the UK within an hour of ordering and set up a test with Kellogg’s and Unilever.

Asda will introduce “Express Click & Collect”, where customers can already collect their groceries one hour after ordering, in 25 stores at the beginning of February. By the end of next month, the service should be available in several hundred stores, writes Charged. The service has already been successfully tested in stores in Killingbeck and Middelton. Customers who wish to make use of the collection service can choose from the full range of the supermarket chain.
“When we launched the Express Click & Collect trial, we expected to see people picking up forgotten items, or basics such as bread, milk, nappies and last-minute dinner ingredients,” said Asda’s vice president of online grocery Simon Gregg. “In reality, it has been used for everything from a small weekly shop to those just wanting to pick up a few essentials. As a result of the huge demand we’ve seen in response to the trial we’re working hard to roll it out further early this year.”

Asda has also announced a new sustainability trial store. In Leeds, customers will be able to buy certain products such as coffee, tea, breakfast cereals, pasta and rice in bulk via special dispensers. The retailer is collaborating with some major suppliers such as Kellogg’s and Unilever.
The purpose of the trial is to reduce the use of plastic as much as possible. The trial will last three months and during that time Asda also wants to collect as much customer feedback as possible.
