Both Just Eat Takeaway and Delivery Hero have shown interest in taking over the American competitor GrubHub. In the meantime, the latter also continues talks with Uber Eats.
Three candidate acquirers
According to American business channel CNBC, there are two new suitors for meal delivery company GrubHub. After the company had previously started talks with Uber Eats, Netherlands-based Just Eat Takeaway and German Delivery Hero have also expressed their interest in a possible merger with GrubHub.
Just Eat Takeaway did not want to respond to the announcements. A spokesperson for Delivery Hero refused to go into detail, but did admit to “regularly look at potential transactions to evaluate new opportunities for the company”.
In mid-May it was announced that Uber Eats was in talks with GrubHub about a takeover. With a deal, Uber Eats would significantly strengthen its position in the U.S. market, as GrubHub is currently the number three meal service provider in the United States. It serves more than 1,600 cities there. Discussions between the two parties are still ongoing.
CNBC also points out that a takeover by a European partner such as Just Eat Takeaway is likely to meet much less resistance from the competition watchdog.
