Carrefour customers in France can now add their loyalty card to their Apple Wallet, so that they can pay with their iPhone or Apple Watch and at the same time use the loyalty programme.
Totally contactless
Carrefour claims to be the first European retailer to combine its loyalty program with Apple Pay by integrating it within Apple Wallet. In this way, shoppers can make contactless payments for their purchases at the checkout with their iPhone or Apple Watch and at the same time use their personal Carrefour loyalty card.
Once users have added their loyalty card to their Apple Wallet, all they have to do is bring their Apple device near the payment terminal and the Carrefour card will automatically appear on the screen. They don’t need to scan a barcode, start an application or even remember a secret code to use the Carrefour card, just unlock their phone.
Especially in the context of the coronapandemic, Carrefour says it is safer and easier to pay completely contactless. From now on, the system will be available in all the French stores of the supermarket group and from the autumn customers will also be able to use Apple Pay online and in the French Carrefour app. Whether and when the application will also come to other countries is not yet known by the retailer.
