Carrefour Belgium freezes the prices of more than 20,000 products until the end of the year. The retailer wants to help preserve the consumer’s purchasing power in this way.
Not for fresh food
Carrefour announces that it will not increase the prices of more than 20,000 products in Belgium until the end of the year. This concerns more than 20,000 sku’s in the hypermarkets and more than 10,000 in the smaller Carrefour branches. However, promotions, fresh products with strongly fluctuating prices (fish, seasonal fruit and vegetables) and products of local producers are excluded from the scheme. By freezing prices, the supermarket chain aims to support families during the second wave of the corona virus pandemic and preserve their purchasing power, according to a press release.
Because many people are (compulsorily) teleworking, the chain is also making extra efforts to make it easier to order from home. For example, extra workforce is being deployed to process online orders faster and more easily.
As a result of the government’s corona virus measures, stores are temporarily allowed to sell only so-called essential products. Carrefour has therefore set up a click & collect service for non-essential products such as textiles and toys. The articles can be ordered online, by phone or in the stores.
