Yesterday, Prince Charles’ charity, The Prince’s Foundation, in collaboration with online fashion shop Yoox Net-a-Porter, presented a capsule collection. It is inspired by the work of Leonardo Da Vinci and emphasises sustainability.
Natural materials
The collection comprises a total of eighteen items, ten for women and eight for men. All items are handmade from natural and organic materials of the highest quality, and come from suppliers selected according to sustainable principles. No synthetic fibres were used, only cashmere and wool from Scotland, and ecological silk made in Italy.
Behind the collection is the work of The Modern Artisan, a project of The Prince’s Foundation. This foundation was founded in 1986 by Prince Charles to support Scotland’s heritage traditions, such as the distinctive knitwear and tartan, as well as its architecture. Six Italian students were allowed to design the clothing as part of The Modern Artisan. The pieces were then produced in the United Kingdom, by specially trained craftsmen and according to traditional artisan techniques.
Leonardo da Vinci
A major source of inspiration for the collection was the work of Leonardo da Vinci. This is reflected, among other things, in the pure, simple lines of the garments. The folds, the smocking and the architectural details are also a tribute to the Italian genius.
The collection is for sale worldwide since yesterday via Net-a-Porter, Yoox, Mr. Porter, and The Outnet. The proceeds will go to The Prince’s Foundation, which will use the money to give new training courses.
