Dispute about wages at bpost
Up until the end of February, Johnny Thijs was the CEO for the Belgian post office, but he resigned after a dispute about his wages: bpost’s majority shareholder, the Belgian government, limited government CEOs’ wages to 650,000 euro per year, even though some had had earned up to the double the year before. Johnny Thijs had worked for bpost since 2002.
Prior to bpost, he worked for Rothmans Groep, Masterfoods, Côte d’Or-Jacobs Suchard, Interbrew and Ter Beke, while he still presides the board at Spadel, the Belgian distributor of waters like Spa. He will combine that with his new job at Delhaize, a chain with more than 3,500 stores worldwide (in 9 countries) and a 2013 turnover of 21.1 billion euro.
