For the time being, there will be no new collection for Fenty, Rihanna’s clothing line. Luxury house LVMH and the pop star have put the label on hold.
Covid crisis
Fenty got launched barely two years ago. LVMH had hoped to benefit from the American singer’s popularity, who has a large following, particularly on social media.
But now LVMH and Rihanna are jointly announcing the temporary suspension of operations “awaiting better conditions.” Due to the Covid crisis, the pop star cannot travel, writes Belgian newspaper De Tijd. Both the label’s headquarters and production sites are in Europe.
Lingerie
Still, there had been rumours for some time about a possible termination of the project, which is said not to be a great success. “We are clearly still in a launch phase with Fenty, and we are yet to find out exactly what the best range would be,” CFO Jean-Jacques Guiony responded in October last year.
However, the discontinuation does not mean the end of the cooperation between the luxury group and the hip-hop star. Apart from a clothing line, Fenty has also been offering cosmetics for several months and this will continue as normal. Furthermore, L Catterton, LVMH’s investment fund, recently took an interest in Savage x Fenty, Rihanna’s lingerie brand.
