Carrefour extends partnership with Deliveroo

Food6 April, 2021

In Paris, customers of Carrefour can now also have their groceries delivered to their home within half an hour by Deliveroo riders. In Belgium, the collaboration expands to Antwerp and Ghent.

Choice from a thousand products

Carrefour and Deliveroo have already been working together in Belgium, Italy and Spain for some time, but now the French home market is next. Inhabitants of Paris can have their groceries delivered in less than thirty minutes. In the coming months, the service will also be extended to some ten additional French cities.

In Belgium, the cooperation shifts to a higher gear: after the start in early March in Brussels and Liège, the service now also starts in Antwerp (in April) and Ghent (in May). In Italy, Carrefour and Deliveroo together already cover fifty major cities, in Spain the partnership is already active since spring 2020.

Shoppers can choose from an assortment of about a thousand references. With this partnership, Carrefour wants to offer its customers even more fast delivery options in the most important European cities. Since last year, the retailer also works with Uber Eats in France and Belgium, and also has its own delivery service ShipTo, which has groceries delivered by a personal shopper with an electric carrier bike in Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent and Liege. According to the retailer, these different services are complementary and consumer demand for home delivery has increased sharply since the corona crisis.

Belgium struggles with stricter advertising rules for unhealthy food

Food companies and retailers promise to abide by stricter marketing rules: the age limit for campains towards children is being raised, while rules about advertisement near schools and on social media are becoming stricter. However, this kind of self-regulation is also being criticised.
