More in the future
The new pick-up point will be open every day between 8 in the morning and 8 in the evening and it will mostly service tourists and commuters. If this pilot project proves successful, E. Leclerc wants to open several other pick-up points alongside French highways.
The chain has managed to increase its market share considerably through the opening of several pick-up points (more than 450 in France alone) and it has now entered Carrefour’s slipstream, which means both chains are now fighting a fierce price war. E. Leclerc’s pick-up points currently generate a turnover of 1.5 billion euro.
If possible, E. Leclerc aims to boost the number of ‘drives’ to 800, with 150 new openings planned for this year. In 2012, the chain had already opened 127 drives, with another 174 in 2013. France currently has 2,874 pick-up points for online grocery orders.
