First store in 2015
Primark’s first American store will open in 2015 in Boston, with negotiations on-going to get more stores in the north-east of the United States. The chain is convinced it will not have to accept defeat after a while (as other British retailers like Tesco did). “We have as differentiated and attractive a proposition in the US as we have in continental Europe and the British Isles. We think we have something special to offer“, said George Weston, CEO of parent company ABF.
American stores will not be serviced through the United Kingdom, unlike the European stores: Primark will have to open an American distribution center. Every American Primark store will be owned by Primark itself.
Primark currently has more than 270 stores in 9 countries, including Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Last year, it opened its very first French stores, in Marseille and Dijon.
