Swedish fashion giant H&M has expanded its second-hand platform Sellpy to no fewer than twenty new markets – including Belgium. It is a huge leap forward from the four markets that Sellby sold to until now.
Growing sustainability awareness
As of today, Sellpy is also available in Belgium. According to Pär Lindback, country sales manager H&M Belgium, awareness and demand for circular fashion is steadily growing. “We are therefore extremely pleased that we are now also offering a platform in Belgium where customers can buy second-hand fashion and sell clothes, thus extending their lifespan.”
The platform’s operation remains unchanged: customers can send their worn clothes to Sellpy for free in a special bag. When a garment is sold, the customer receives a percentage of the proceeds, with a minimum of 40%. Items that do not find a buyer are recycled or donated to charity.
Sellpy was founded in 2014. A year later, H&M stepped into the platform and in 2019 the Swedish fashion giant acquired a majority stake in the company through its investment arm CO:LAB. The twenty new countries are added to the list of four where Sellpy had been available until now: Sweden, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.
