Amazon sold over 250 million items during its two-day Prime Day sales festival at the beginning of this week. Belgian customers mainly bought tablets and smartphones.
Supporting its partners
This year, the focus of the two-day sales festival was on sales partners. In the run-up to the event, Amazon launched a major promotional stunt in which customers were given 10 dollars (8.4 euros) as a gift if they shopped for at least the same amount at one of the platform’s partners. The campaign was a great success, with Prime members spending a total of 1.9 billion dollars (1.6 billion euros) at the, mainly small, businesses, more than doubling the previous edition.
Overall, Amazon sold more than 250 million items, including more than 600,000 backpacks, a million laptops and a million headphones. In addition, Amazon Music Unlimited recorded a record number of new registrations.
11 billion dollars
Amazon itself did not release any sales figures, but according to Adobe Analytics, the event generated more than 11 billion dollars (9 billion euros), an increase of more than 6 per cent compared to last year. Prime Day thus surpassed the success of Cyber Monday last year.
Among the best-selling products worldwide were the iRobot Roomba 692 robot hoover and the K-Slim Coffee Maker. In Belgium, tablets and smartphones were accompanied by the Brita water filter Marella and Microsoft Office 365 Family.
