Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo has opened a store in Ronse today, its fifth store opening this year. However, it is the first time the chain has reached an area with a sizeable French-speaking population.

The new store has a surface of 1,900 sqm and prides itself in a sizeable corner for flowers, as well as a Hema corner. The store has a strategic location on the main roads to French-speaking cities Tournai and Leuze, but also next to its rivals Albert Heijn and Lidl.
This is the fifth Belgian store Jumbo has opened this year, already equalling last year’s total. The aim, however, was to open ten new stores in Belgium this year – for which the chain both counts on its first Belgian franchise store and the rebranding of three more supermarkets it has acquired from the Alvo chain. In four years’ time, there even should be 100 Belgian Jumbo stores.
