Dutch packaging-free web supermarket Pieter Pot has started delivering to Brussels and Wallonia, half a year after expanding to Dutch-speaking Belgium. A French version of the website is coming soon, while French-speaking customers can already start subscribing.
Economies of scale
A few months after the expansion into the Flemish market, Pieter Pot also took the step into French-speaking Belgium. The French-language website is coming “soon”, but Pieter Pot actually already delivers in Wallonia and Brussels – if customers order on the Dutch-language site, RetailDetail has learnt today.
The new expansion is logical: scaling up is urgently needed to break even, the company said during the Belgian launch last year. “With a circular delivery service like ours, where there are double transport costs due to the collection of the empty pots and cleaning them, the scale on which you operate is very important to become financially healthy. We therefore need to seduce more and more consumers with the sustainable option”, founder Jouri Schoemaker said in a press release following a capital increase.
