“I used to shop a lot at Primark”
The two labels, “forced to work exhausting hours” and “degrading sweatshop conditions“, were discovered by two women, one early last week and the other one a few days later.
“I used to shop a lot at Primark but not so much now. The label has made me think about how my clothes are made“, the customer (Rebecca Williams) told The Daily Mail.
When the first label turned up, some believed it was a factory worker who wanted to complain about Primark’s manufacturing process, but with the second label turning up so fast and in the same store, it is believed to be an activist protest to complain about the working conditions in textile factories.
Alleged forced labour
A Primark in Belfast also found a jeans which contained a letter and a passport. The letter explained how the pants were made by prisoners who had to work 15 hours per day in forced labour.
Primark denies their clothing is made by forced labour and will research the letter and the labels. A spokesperson added that the chain’s code of conduct explicitly states that working conditions have to be decent and that workers need to get fair wages.
