At the end of November, Deliveroo will definitely put a stop to its operations in the Netherlands. The delivery platform sees no opportunities to establish a strong market position in the country.
Focus on profit
Deliveroo had already announced in August that the company would leave the Netherlands. Now the consultation process has been completed and the departure is final. The company’s operational activities will end on 30 November. Employees and delivery drivers will receive ‘appropriate’ compensation packages.
The delivery platform argues that achieving a strong market position in the Netherlands would require a disproportionate investment, with uncertain long-term returns. The company, which is still loss-making, puts the focus on achieving profitability, no easy task in a challenging economic climate. After all, delivery is in a slump after excellent corona years. So it is not out of the question that Deliveroo will leave other countries.
