Deliveroo is investing 1.15 million euros to encourage restaurants in Belgium, France and Italy to switch to more sustainable packaging options.
Recycled or compostable
Customers receive a 50 % discount on sustainable packaging. With “sustainable”, Deliveroo refers to packaging that is compostable, or made from recycled paper, cardboard or plastic.
Deliveroo says it previously achieved good results with similar initiatives in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. The investment in green packaging could save up to 140 tonnes of plastic, the equivalent of nine trucks of waste. For Belgium, this amounts to 9 tonnes of plastic. In addition, the packaging supplier offsets 550 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
