Remko Rijnders is getting a different role at MediaMarkt: the managing director is promoted into the executive committee of MediaMarkt Saturn, will become COO for four new countries and will be responsible for all B2B activities.
International COO
Rijnders is also added to the international executive committee, where he succeeds Yenal Gökyıldırım. It means the Benelux top executive will become also COO for Poland, Portugal, Spain and Turkey, on top of his well-known Benelux. He will also be responsible for the B2B activities of the entire group.
The appointment may well be an offshoot of the large-scale restructuring announced by Ceconomy, the parent company of MediaMarkt and Saturn, in 2020. Thousands of jobs have since been cut, to move towards a “group-wide standardised organisational structure”. CEO Berhard Düttmann also wanted to harmonise management structures and administrative functions on a European level.
