450 million euro investment
The labour unions had asked Delhaize’s board to back up its cost-cutting measures with numbers, to prove they are actually necessary. Delhaize seeks to close 14 stores and let 2,500 employees go.
The board has stated it will release those numbers next week. “The board already knew we wanted to get those numbers today”, Veerle Verleyen (part of the LBC labour union) told De Tijd. “The board wants to invest 450 million euro, but we want to know how much will come from the staff and how much the Delhaize Group will contribute itself.”
That is why the labour unions will sit down together to see whether they will have to initiate new actions or whether they will wait for the numbers next week.
