Retail platform Zalando wants millions of customers to try out its virtual fitting room. For the test, the German company provides 22 jeans that customers can try on using an avatar.
Special “Size and Fit” section
The lack of sizing standards for jeans often makes it a challenge to find the right size, leading to customer frustration and high return costs for retailers. Zalando now wants to find a way around this by letting customers create an avatar of themselves, after which they can use a heatmap to see where a chosen garment is (too) tight or loose.
The virtual fitting room was developed with a combination of fitting models and artificial intelligence. “We want to support the industry in further adopting digital 3D design software and workflows for fashion production. These processes generate digital assets needed to scale a virtual fitting experience,” says Stacia Carr, vice-president for “size and fit” at Zalando.
