“Specific to the region”
It had become clear that Samsung no longer had any big plans for laptop sales, as it did not show any new models at the IFA conference in Berlin earlier this month even though it is an important industry event.
“We quickly adapt to market needs and demands. In Europe, we will be discontinuing sales of laptops including Chromebooks for now. This is specific to the region – and is not necessarily reflective of conditions in other markets. We will continue to thoroughly evaluate market conditions and will make further adjustments to maintain our competitiveness in emerging PC categories”, Samsung said.
There has been no mention of job losses because of this decision. When Sony sold Vaio, some 5,000 people lost their job. The PC market has been struggling for a while now, because of the surge in smartphone and tablet sales. Only Chinese Lenovo has managed to consistently present growing numbers.
