“Save 320 euro per year”
Some 89 million tonnes of food is thrown away each year, a third of the world’s total food production. A lot gets wasted because families buy too much and then throw away a lot. Iglo believes that families could save up to 320 euro if they decided to freeze food.
“Freezing food, as a means of preservation, has the potential to play a key role in the fight against food waste. As the leaders in frozen food across Europe, [it] allows us to take a leadership role and encourage people to use freezing and their freezers to waste less food”, Iglo CEO Elio Leoni Sceti said.
That is why Iglo will introduce a new “green” captain on its packaging, which should help people see the benefits of frozen food. Frozen food products reduce food waste by 47 %, Iglo states. Through Forever Food Together, Iglo has also promised to manufacture all of its products in a sustainable and clean way by 2020.
