Carrefour has strengthened its position in Spain with the acquisition of 47 supermarkets and proximity stores from El Corte Inglés. Currently they still wear the SuperCor brand, but they will reopen as Carrefour.
Second market
The 47 stores are in the regions Andalusia, Catalonia, Madrid en Valencia en have a total worth of 60 million euros. They allow Carrefour to raise its presence in Spain, its second most important market (trailing only its home market France). Carrefour has nearly 1,500 stores (including 200 hypermarkets) in the Iberian country.
Carrefour plans to rebrand the newly acquired stores as Carrefour Market, Carrefour Express and Supeco, depending on the circumstances. As usual, the completion of the transaction is still only conditional until all obstacles are cleared. Carrefour hopes this is the case before the end of June 2024.
