The Swedish H&M group is rolling out second-hand initiatives for more and more of its subsidiary brands: now Arket joins with its Arket Archive.
Naturally part
With Arket Archive, H&M now has one more second-hand platform where customers can offer their clothes, shoes, accessories and children’s clothing from the brand, in exchange for cash or a voucher for their next online purchase. Since last Thursday, the platform is available in Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Arket hopes that its Archive helps “to integrate resale as a natural part of our customer experience”, Ville Klemming, Head of Growth & Sustainability at ARKET, said in a press release. For some customers today, buying second-hand is already as natural as buying new, Klemming believes, and the company wants to encourage that circular way of thinking.
Arket owner H&M is also exploring different second-hand models at group level, both online and in-store, and is eagerly implementing them. The Swedish fast-fashion giant’s own research shows that the value of the second-hand market should double to 350 billion dollars by 2027. The expected explosive growth is being driven by Gen Z: they were born into a climate crisis and live in a period of rising inflation, so second-hand fashion kills two birds with one stone.
