Appeal
There were two separate cases, one involving cleaning products and the other on personal healthcare products. The latter is the highest the French antitrust authority has ever given to parties in the personal healthcare industry.
L’Oréal received a 189.5 million euro fine, while Unilever has to pay 172.5 million euro. Both companies have already stated they will appeal the decision, which they feel is unjust. Not only Unilever and L’Oréal were fined, Colgate-Palmolive, Reckitt Benckiser Group, Procter & Gamble, Beiersdorf AG and SC Tissue France were also given hefty fines.
P&G, Colgate and Henkel had previously already been fined, while Unilever was cleared at that time because of its role as whistle blower.
