Wait for good deals in January
Everyone has had to tone down on purchases because of reduced spending power, meaning that delaying Christmas purchases until the financially favourable January sales period is no longer taboo. A third of French citizens has said they would be willing to do so, especially if they belong to a group whose financial situation is not as good: youngsters (41 %), unemployed (37 %) and factory workers (41 %).
In total, 13 % of French people will buy their Christmas items in the 2015 January sales period. The other 21 % who have expressed a willingness to do so, but will not do it yet this year, an Ipsos study, ordered by CA COM, has shown.
Despite the fact that an increasing number of French people are willing to postpone purchases, some are not ready to commit to this. Particularly elderly people (70 % of people older than 60) and well-earning French people (71 % of those who earn more than 3,000 euros per month) are not following this trend, which is mostly because their financial status does not motivate them to spread out purchases.
