“Glass was not a failure”
The device was launched in April 2012 and quickly became of the hottest gadgets around. Its followers believed without a shadow of doubt that almost everyone would have one in the near future, but the truth is that it did not sell all that well – which is why Google has now pulled the plug on its sales.
Google refuses to call it a failure, despite very negative backlash from and local authorities. The company has now stated that it had always been its intention to gather consumer feedback and return to the drawing board to create a product the consumer really wants.
The Google Glass Project has also become an independent group within Google since last week. Previously it was part of the Google X skunkworks, a division focused on new, innovative products. Tony Fadell, who used to work for Apple and the smart thermostat Nest, will now lead the Google Glass development.
