Too Good To Go is trying to help the war on food waste forward using AI. For example, the tool can now alert shops to products that are nearing their expiry date and immediately suggest a discount rate.
Digital checks
The ‘Platform’ application should help food retailers manage their excess stock. “Processes for checking expiry dates and pricing products in-store can be labour-intensive and prone to errors, especially on a large scale”, Country Director Belgium Geertje Zeegers explains.
The application includes five modules, including digital expiry date checks. Algorithms regularly present a list of nearly expired products to employees, reducing the need for them to do manual checks. Too Good To Go Platform also provides specific recommendations, such as a suggested discount level, via a handheld device.
Shop employees can obviously allocate surplus food directly to Too Good To Go surprise packs, but the new tool also allows connection with external donation applications, such as Food Banks. French retailer Monoprix is the first one to test the new platform, across 250 locations.
