MediaMarkt has opened the first Benelux branch of its new Xpress shop format, a compact store concept that focuses on convenience and proximity. It is a perfect complement to the existing larger shop formats, the German electronics specialist claims.
Omnichannel strategy
The MediaMarkt Xpress in Wijnegem (near Antwerp, Belgium) measures just 900 sqm and sells a range of 3,800 products that are immediately available – mainly popular items and gadgets such as smartphones, notebooks, televisions or game consoles. Shoppers can test and order those products, pick them up in the shop or have them delivered to their homes.
With this concept, the retailer aims to reach a new customer segment: those who want to shop easily and conveniently in their immediate vicinity. MediaMarkt has already successfully rolled out the one-stop shopping concept in Austria, Germany, Hungary and Spain, and now it is also introducing it in the Low Countries.
“It perfectly complements our existing shop concepts and our online proposition”, MediaMarkt Benelux CEO Remko Rijnders explains. “This omnichannel strategy allows us to organise the offering even more in the customer’s immediate vicinity in the future, including with this Xpress format with smaller surface areas, but with greater productivity.”
