Shortage for Dutch parents
Shipping baby milk powder to China has been a long-standing problem for Dutch supermarkets. Retailers buy large quantities of the product, creating shortages for normal consumers, forcing Jumbo to implement several measures to get some normalcy back. Other supermarket chains have done similarly, like putting a cap on the number of products people can buy.
The transfer of Dutch products to China started back in 2008 when toxic melanin was found in Chinese products, killing 6 babies and making 300,000 children sick. Ever since, Chinese consumers have preferred buying foreign products, like Dutch baby milk powder.
