Inditex gives 1.2 million euro
Spanish textile giant Inditex is one of the first large fashion retailers to respond to the international demand for aid. The company, which owns brands like Zara, Stradivarius and Massimo Dutti, has donated 1.2 million euro to three international charities. The Red Cross received 500,000 euro for tents, blankets and health care; Oxfam got an equal amount to help distributing clean water and take care of sanitation, while Caritas has been given 200,000 euro to supply emergency first response water and food.
Multinationals Unilever and Coca-Cola have also come to the aid of the local population: Coca-Cola halted production and has offered its infrastructure and know-how to get fresh water to the area as quickly as possible. Unilever said it is “doing everything we can to support, working with UN and global NGO emergency partners, providing products and expertise to contribute to their relief effort.” Both have factories in Nepal, but these were not hit by the earthquake.
